Midwives

CDM - Certified Direct-Entry Midwife - educated in the discipline of midwifery through self-study, apprenticeship, and a midwifery school or university-based program which is distinct from the discipline of nursing. She is trained to provide the Midwifery Model of Care to healthy women and newborns throughout the childbearing cycle, primarily in out-of-hospital settings.

CPM - Certified Professional Midwife - a knowledgeable, skilled and professional certified direct-entry midwife who has met the additional standards set by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).

CNM - Certified Nurse-Midwife - Nurse-Midwives in the United States are also Nurse Practitioners. They are trained with a nursing background to apply the Midwifery Model of Care to healthy women and newborns throughout the childbearing cycle. They also provide primary care to women, well woman care, family planning, menopause care, and prescriptions.

ANP - Adult Nurse Practicioner - a registered nurse who has completed specific advanced education and training in the diagnosis and management of common as well as a few complex medical conditions. Nurse Practitioners provide a broad range of healthcare services. ANP's can serve as a patient's "point of entry" health care provider, and see patients of all ages depending on their designated scope of practice.

Doulas
Doula, a ancient word of Greek descent, signifies a woman dedicated to nurturing and supporting new mothers and families. Contemporary doulas combine traditional wisdom with current practical information and hands-on guidance to provide education, support, and non-medical care. Most importantly, doulas meet the individual needs of each mother, baby, and family in the security of their own environment.

Board of Directors:
The Juneau Family Health and Birth Center is a nonprofit organization. As such, we are run by a board of directors. Board members are volunteers from the community who are elected by our members at our annual meeting.
